Baked beans

Sunday lunch.

Baked beans.

Quite often when I go to the great culinary effort of assembling baked beans on toast, I have a little burst of song. A musical memory from childhood. A funky little song. As I’m in my own Mums’ Idol contest crooning away in the kitchen, the children often look at me with wondering eyes.

Well. Today I thought I’d locate the clip. Those quizzical eyes needed an explanation. I could see the lead singer, I could hear the song. But I just couldn’t think of the group’s name. Google to the rescue. And there they were:
If you're not already laughing at the mere sight of them, have a real and out loud giggle by watching this clip:  Mother Goose. Have a listen. And lift your spirits!

What a beauty it truly is! A marvellous snippet of NZ in the 70s. Dunedin. I love the whimsy and the self-conscious silliness of it all.

Baked beans.

No wonder I always have a song in my heart when I get those baked beans out of the pantry!
